Imagine the scene; you’re trekking through a mountainous area of the Balkan countryside. Small hamlets appear here and there in the haze of the vista. The afternoon sun is sinking and the colours are gradually changing to a soft gold. You come round the corner to find three peasants resting after the day’s work. They are relaxing, sitting, playing their ukuleles. The fellow plucking the tune also has his very own portable echo chamber.

As they pluck away and the melancholic tune rises into the air, a callow youth from a nearby village appears, with a portable battery-operated synthesiser and a baseball hat on back to front, and joins in.

Bored to tears despite your desire to enjoy such moments, you think of the alcohol waiting to seduce you at your hotel, smile insincerely and continue on your way. But the youth with the synth follows you, grinning and hoping for some money. Receding into the distance, the other three take the opportunity to munch on a rare cheese. As you are about to reluctantly hand some money over to the youth, his synthesiser abruptly stops working.
