I like this one a lot, probably because:
I hate shopping;
I’ve been lucky enough to avoid serious debt;
I think consumerism is a mean, nasty, glittering, worthless trick played by the powerful;
I have friends and acquaintances a bit like a character in this song.

I used an interesting songwriting technique in this one. The verses are in a minor key and the lyrical ideas are internalized, contemplative, ponderous and dreamlike, whereas the chorus is in a major key and the lyric is externalized, and positive about the experience of shopping – a structure of contrasts

A rhetorical question: Why does our society have perfectly legal practices in place allowing people to get into enormous debt without truly understanding the potential consequences, or having a hope in hell of paying it off?
