Blimey. This one was a difficult stinker; it gave me a blooming ache, right in my bonce.

I don’t like a lot of classical music, but I really like Bach’s ‘Air on a G-string’ and thought I’d go exploring it some more...

I worked out the chords for the first section, put them into a midifile, reversed the midifile, put in a new bass line and had a listen.

I wasn’t expecting an epiphany, but I was surprised how disharmonious it sounded, probably likely due to me rather than Bach. I think that’s safe to assume.

So I did a spot of tweaking until the chords seemed more friendly. Then I added a new bass line

Next I decided to put on a tune which would have very little up and down movement in its pitch. This was my challenge...

The result is a plaintive tune which seems to be finding its way nervously along a path, containing a theme which appears several times and works over different chords. So although it’s only a minute long, this one was a headache and made me very aware of my limitations. Which of course, is good for building the character.
