about

I found a set of chords and fiddled about until I ended up with this little classical-ish creation.

There’s something interesting going on here – let’s see if I can explain. What I did was to play a chord, then move a note or two while holding down other notes in the chord, then move the other notes in the chord, then do it all again. Kind of as though the notes are sliding over the chords and dragging the chords behind them again and again, as though some of the notes go exploring and then invite their friends to join them, and then they get itchy feet and do it all over again. There’s probably a posh word for this process, but I don’t know what is.

This technique isn’t commonly found in popular music, but some of the old prog bands used to do it and so did quite a lot of the classical chappies. And now I’m doing it, so I’m in good longhaired/bewigged company, even though I don’t have long hair and am most emphatically unbewigged.
