about

This one started as a shamefully catchy chorus and somehow turned into a story about sub-standard bananas, adultery, arson, Cousin Norman, a chappie in Kent and a head in the woods. The sort of thing the Coen Brothers might plunder artistically.

This one’s got loads of funny little sounds and I’m very happy with the way it turned out, with its oblique lyric delivered with slightly distorted vocals on top of a cushion of loop-heavy pop sounds.

A cryptic and not especially relevant question for you: what would be Cousin Norman’s favourite thing to spread on toast?

And I hope you’re doing ok. Are you?
.

lyrics

Heard you dropped a peeled banana
And it fell to the floor
But it wasn’t a disaster
Because you had several more
I got some down on the market
They were all black and bent
If you want some really good ones
I know this chappie in Kent

I hope you’re doing doing doing doing OK
I hope you’re doing doing doing doing OK
I hope you’re doing doing doing doing
Doing doing doing OK
I hope you’re doing doing doing doing
Doing doing doing OK

Did you hear ‘bout Cousin Norman?
He found a head in the woods
He took it to the police station
Just like everyone should
But the policemen got quite nasty
They put Norman away
So I’m writing in this letter, to say
I hope he’s doing OK

“Dear Norman
I hope you’re doing doing doing doing OK...”

Dear Norman
I’ll end this letter now by saying
I know you’re innocent
And wouldn’t hurt a fly, so
The head in the words belonged to your old boss?
Big deal!
The man who sacked you
Ran off with your wife
Beat you up in the pub
And set fire to you last bonfire night?
Big deal!
It’s circumstantial coincidence
I’ve got a great solicitor on the case, Norman
He’s a chappie from Kent

I hope you’re doing doing doing doing OK...

about

bushytunes Christmas Island

Once upon a time there was a crazy idea: to create, record and upload a musical track every day for a year. And the idea floated round and round the planet, looking for a place to call home. After a long time of searching and wishing and watching, the idea chose to make a nest in the brain of a bushy fellow, coming to his aid and guiding him out of the doldrums, back to a magical pathway... ... more
