This electronic piece emerged as I was noodling around with some rhythmic synth noises and a simple tune moving slowly up and down in semitones. I think the tune sounds a bit Eastern.

The idea here was to vary the repetitive mood by having different sounds appearing and disappearing every few bars. Then the main rhythms dominate before giving way to a breakdown and a long, slow fade.

A confession: overall, this felt more like an exercise than anything else while I was doing it, though after I listened to it a couple of times I did quite like the rhythmic, pulsing, bubbling sounds and loops cushioning the tune. Not bad, I s'pose, not bad...

The title? I was thinking a bit about David Bowie and his ‘Low’ album while doing this one. A word association brain glitch turned ‘low’ into ‘lowing’ which prompted the words of the Christmas carol, away in a manger: ‘The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes’.
